(Wichita, KS) – Wichita Clinic’s Osteoporosis Testing Center has been awarded accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Skeletal Assessment Facilities (CASAF).   CASAF is an international accreditation program developed by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).  In earning the CASAF accreditation, skeletal assessment facilities communicate to their community, patients and other stakeholders that their facility has attained a significant measure of excellence in the provision of skeletal assessment services.

“Wichita Clinic’s Osteoporosis Testing Center is honored to receive facility accreditation from CASAF,” said Mark Crabtree, R.T., CDT, coordinator of the Center. “We are very pleased to be recognized in the skeletal assessment community for providing outstanding services in accordance with international standards and benchmarks in this field.”

“By applying for and receiving CASAF accreditation, Wichita Clinic’s Osteoporosis Testing Center has demonstrated a commitment to quality programs and services, said Dr. Ed Leib, CASAF Chair.  “Earning CASAF accreditation shows the community and patients that Wichita Clinic has attained a measure of excellence and quality performance in this field.”

Wichita Clinic's Osteoporosis Testing Center is a part of the Rheumatology Department.  Physicians in this department are specialists in musculoskeletal diseases who help determine the causes of osteoporosis and other types of bone diseases. They also assist other physicians by providing and monitoring treatment programs tailored to each patient. These rheumatologists are active in educating the public and health care specialists about this serious health problem.

The Testing Center is consistently chosen to participate in the search for better therapies for osteoporosis together with other leading treatment investigators. Several research projects are underway.

The facility is a full-time testing center with the ability to do peripheral (heel and forearm) as well as central bone densitometry and instant vertebral assessment / morphology. With the experience of conducting over 40,000 exams Wichita Clinic physicians and technologists provide the highest quality of patient care with the latest knowledge and technology that research has to offer.

The Center is credentialed by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. Staff physicians are Certified Densitometrists and technologists are Certified Densitometry Technologists.

CASAF Accreditation Standards cover a wide variety of topics including personnel, DXA quality assurance and quality control, scan acquisition and analysis, scan interpretation and reporting, patient and referring physician education, privacy, business ethics and regulatory requirements.

CASAF is an independent international accreditation body and a leader in defining quality and performance issues in skeletal assessment.  For additional information on CASAF visit www.iscd.org.
